Posted: 07-15-08
Dr. Bill East and Jeff Kirby received the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer. This award is presented annually to recognize laboratory employees who have achieved outstanding success in transferring a technology developed by a federal laboratory to the commercial marketplace.
East and Kirby, researchers at the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory, were cited for developing and transferring a suite of innovative, web-based software that significantly improves the facility delivery process. Called ProjNetSM, the tools support collaboration during the design, bid, and build phases. ProjNetSM helps project participants identify and resolve issues, exchange documents securely, automatically capture and document transactions, and track status. Under a cooperative agreement with the National Institute of Building Sciences, the ProjNetSM technology is being transferred nationwide.
FLC is the U.S. network of federal laboratories that provides the forum to develop strategies and opportunities for linking laboratory mission technologies and expertise with the marketplace. The FLC was organized in 1974 and formally chartered by the Federal Technology Transfer Act of 1986 to promote and strengthen technology transfer nationwide.
East and Kirby will accept the award at a ceremony in Portland, Ore., in May.
