DOE Federal Energy Management Program - FEMP

Sustainable acquisitions are environmentally preferable products and services that help the federal government "buy green" while stimulating market demand. This training enables learners to recognize and comply with federal sustainability requirements prior to, as well as during, the purchase of products and services, and the benefits that result to the federal government, the community, and the environment from compliance with these requirements.

Instructors

Shabnam Fardanesh, Sustainable Acquisition Program Coordinator, Office of Sustainable Environmental Stewardship, U.S. Department of Energy

Shabnam (Shab) Fardanesh is the Sustainable Acquisition Coordinator at the DOE Office of Sustainability Support. She is a nationally recognized subject matter expert in environmental sustainability, sustainable acquisition, fleet management, and alternative fuel technologies. She is the DOE GreenBuy Program lead which provides the agency sites with direction and incentives for purchasing products with strong environmental attributes. In 2009-10, Shab served as a Senior Program Manager for the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, assisting in Executive Order (EO) 13514 implementation with a special emphasis on sustainable transportation. She also served in the Energy Branch of the Office of Management and Budget in 2005, working on energy efficiency projects. Shab has managed compliance activities and drafted guidance documents for all Federal fleets in meeting requirements for the Energy Policy Acts of 1992 and 2005, E.O. 13149, and E.O. 13423. Shab also chaired the Interagency Committee on Alternative Fuels and Low Emission Vehicles (INTERFUEL), comprised of energy and environmental officials from more than 30 agencies, coordinating policy and programs for fleet sustainability and environmental management from 2000 to 2007.

Sandra Cannon, Technical Support, Sustainable Acquisition Program, U.S. Department of Energy

Sandra Cannon provides technical support for the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Sustainable Acquisition Program, which involves identifying environmentally healthy products and helping DOE sites transition to those products. Sandra is the author of The Competitive Advantage: EcoPurchasing, and Head of EcoPurchasing Consultants. In her years of experience, she has initiated multiple green procurement projects, including Build a Green Walla Walla, the Builders ReSupply, the $mart Business Partners Program.
